New Updates:
-Gas line repair by end of week.
-Rabies Vaccination Clinic for animal workers – Tuesday Feb. 18th and 25th. Two injections, seven days apart. Email coming out soon.
-GloGerm training for departments (all are welcome and encouraged to attend). Donning and doffing gloves, hand washing, cleaning biosafety cabinets, cleaning lab benches, cross-contamination demonstrations, and practice. Smoke tube testing to demonstrate airflow in fume hood and biosafety cabinets. Cassi will reach out for a couple of dates/times for your department.
- Facilities Services/IT/Lab job shadowing. Creating an understanding and relationship building across service departments and labs. Ideas/thoughts? Want to join a committee to help establish these especially important relationships? Sign-up sheet available or reach out to Cassi Sewell.80.
-Site Visits include ALL locations you do research/work. Greenhouses, Animal Facilities, other labs. Expect 1.5 hours per lab for site visit.
-Site Visits begin soon. Those PIs will be emailed to schedule, please do not share that link with others, the lab will be notified as it is their turn. I am not inspecting the whole building at one time.
-Pesticides purchased by a PI that are applied by the farm crew should be listed on the PIs inventory. If you need access to a specific building to enter the inventory, I can add that for you. Reach out with your needs.
-You must obtain a Commercial Pesticide License to apply chemicals as an OSU student or employee. If you have permission to spray under a licensed person you must complete the Trained Service Person training from ODA and this form. More info here. If applying as a Trained Service Person fill out Mutual Agreement for Applying Pesticides under ODA Commercial Pesticide License Holder form.
-Annual fit tests emails going out for scheduling in March and April.
-Fume hood certifications ongoing. If you need ASAP for IBC or use fume hood a lot reach out directly to fast track the certification.

-Hazardous Waste Storage Area move (in process) and Electronic Waste moved to Main Pesticide Storage.
Reminders:
-DO NOT REUSE GLOVES! Automatic deficiency if I see used gloves on benchtops.
-Lab coats, gloves and proper PPE REQUIRED to be worn when working with chemicals, this is for your safety!
-Decontaminate and clean equipment (fume hoods, etc.) BEFORE facilities services do ANY work and before moving to “storage”. Include signage that equipment has been decontaminated or remove biohazard stickers from unit.
-ORAT must be filled out by ALL new employees, including volunteers, update any time job duties change and annually. If you need a respirator and you have been to MedPro and have not received a Medical Clearance form within 2 weeks, please reach out to me so I can follow up on that. -N95s must be fit tested if use is required, including IBC or animal use. “Required” according to label of chemical, IBC safety protocols, and sometimes based on EHS Hazard Assessment. Reach out to Cassi with questions or if you need a fit test.
-“Voluntary Use” for respirators is okay. Half-face and full-face MUST have medical examination before use. N95 does not need medical examination. All voluntary use must adhere to Appendix D to Sec. 1910.134: 1910.134 App D - (Mandatory) Information for Employees Using Respirators When not Required Under the Standard. | Occupational Safety and Health Administration (osha.gov)
-NO evaporation of chemicals in fume hoods or labs, including alcohol. Remove bag and dispose of in bucket or barrel of chemically contaminated waste, dispose through EHS Chemical Waste, cardboard box can be recycled.
-Notify me of new PIs and lab managers, I host an introduction and training on EHS Systems.
-Excellence in Safety Awards nominations through March 31st. Excellence in Safety Awards | Environmental Health and Safety (osu.edu) Student, Faculty/Staff, Lab Group awards. Individual winners receive commemorative plaque, winning lab receive commemorative plaque and $500 towards safety supplies, PPE, training, etc. CFAES Wooster won 2 of the 3 in 2023. I cannot write letters of support.
-Chemical pick-ups (usually last Wednesday of month).

-Supply delivery & bio waste, weekly or as needed.
-Bio Waste – bags tied, and lids closed or will not take, LIDS CLOSED WHEN NOT ACTIVELY FILLING.
-SOP Flowchart – use to help figure out what type of SOP is required for chemicals

-general for the season okay – think about different weather and conditions when filling out
-store with CHP/HazCom Plan & document training for the plan
-submit with IBC protocol, not required yet but helpful and may be asked for it

-deficiencies must be responded to via EHS Assist, I can’t close them without a response and resolution, unresolved or deficiencies not responded to will result in new deficiency for 2025
-will be checking IBC protocols for continuity between protocol and how things are handled in the working space
